HM Queen's 90th birthday was celebrated in style in Stratton... The evening kicked off with a barbecue, courtesy of The Saxon Arms, and then everyone made their way up to "The Clumps" for the lighting of the beacon.  This was one of 1,000 beacons being lit across the country and the Parish Council was proud to have been invited to take part.

Nearly 100 people attended which was an amazing turnout considering it was a "school night"!  Before the beacon was lit a special letter from HRH Prince of Wales was read out by Mr Tom Pope and the beacon was lit by Mr Ian Gibson in recognition of his service to the Church and the community in Stratton. Then everyone joined in singing "Happy Birthday" to Her Majesty.

Special thanks go to everyone who attended the event, and in particular to the Saxon Arms for their hospitality; to the Wrackleford Estate and Wrackleford Farms for allowing the beacon to be built on their land; to Lee, Mark, Tom, Andrew and Charlie who helped to build the beacon and helped to transport people up to the site, to the volunteer marshals Hannah, Stuart, and Roger; and to St John Ambulance for their volunteer first aiders. Luckily they weren't needed and the evening went off without a hitch!
