The first annual Stratton Boules Competition was held in 2007 when Deane Parr (left) and Ian Gibson entered under the team name 'The Wardens'. Both competitors were at the time, Churchwardens at St. Mary's Church, Stratton. They became the first boules champions.

On Saturday 1st August 2015 a large contingent of contestants started play on the newly-surfaced court at Stratton in the annual boules competition shortly after 5:00pm and finished at 9:00pm. Many laughs were had and amazing shots were played throughout the evening.

The final was keenly and seriously fought by Andy and Nathan Aylott against John Cherry and Peter Hallett, with the Aylotts being the victors. Sam Webb was the most promising young player of the evening.

Particular thanks go to Pete Hallett for working out the running order which meant all teams had at least two matches and Tony O'Donnell for doing the raffle. Also to Jenny Hills for slaving over a hot BBQ and generally doing whatever was needed and all who helped with the clear up.

On Sunday 18th September 2016 the annual boules championships were held in glorious weather : there were 16 players, many laughs and a fun time was had by all. It was good to see two youngsters playing in the competition with their dads : champions in the making ! Cups were awarded to the winning team, namely Chris Boulton and Barry Hills, with medals for the runners up, Nicki and Jenny, and the youngest players, Sam and Jasmine.

Even the dull and drizzling day did not stop seventeen people coming along to play and help in the Stratton Boules Championships. A big "Thankyou” to you all in continuing to make this a success. Fuelled by tea, coffee, sandwiches and biscuits (and three disappearing off for a quick cuppa and cake in the Church), the competition showed up some excellent boules skills obviously honed during the afternoon and evening sessions this year.

After the seven teams had played three times, the final was played between “Carpenter's Bottom”, the girls’ team of Sue Aylott and Jan Wells, and “Don’t Mind”, the boys' team of John Cherry and Chris Dunn. The winner being the first to ten, it was a tense, nail-biting final with the score see-sawing between them. At 9-6 to the girls, and the first team to reach 10 points to win, they were only one point away from the gold medal. However, the boys, as incredible as it seemed, overtook them with the last couple of throws to win 10-9! A great final! Jasmine was awarded the Junior Medal, throwing some fine boules.
