EAT YOUR WAY AROUND THE WORLD

      Saturday 2nd November 2013

Stratton International Airport’s Maiden Flight Success

The journey from a crazy idea to an amazing night’s entertainment, which raised over £1400 for cancer charities, was achieved by a hard working ‘can do’ team from Stratton and a generous band of adventurers.

The Eat Your Way Round the World event was the brain child of Stratton resident, Rosie Barfoot, who admits it would not have been possible without the dedication of her team of chefs and helpers.

Eight tables representing eight different countries were decorated and three courses of traditional dishes from those countries served. Countries were France, Italy, UK, USA, China, Mexico, India and China.

Ticket holders were escorted to the ‘check-in’ desk at the airport (in the village hall) before going into the departure lounge. Here ‘customs officer’, Wayne Hughes, ‘taxed’ people for the drinks they had brought with them, as part of the fund raising activity for two worthy charities of Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Orchid – male cancer research.

Naturally after a few delays, flights were called by the experienced stewardess, Anna Shapter, and people made their way to their first destination for starters. Vegetarian options were available. After each course, people moved to their next destination, giving everyone the chance to meet new people and try new cuisine. The buzz in the hall was incredible.

Beautiful raffle prizes had been donated by local firms such as Dorset Cereals,  Fudge’s Bakery, Fiona Penny, Head to Head and the Saxon Arms. More unusual prizes included a weekend for two in a shepherd’s hut and a week’s accommodation in North Cyprus. Last person standing with true/false questions about the world was designed and delivered by Ken Barfoot and won by Jane Duchars of Stratton.

The only people who were jet-lagged were the exhausted chefs, who also had to clear up afterwards.

Thank you to everyone who helped and supported this fantastic event and made it a success. Watch out for the next flight and get your ticket early.
