VALENTINE NIGHT STORM & POWER CUT
14th / 15th February 2014

At about 10pm on Friday 14th February 2014 a tree near the Stratton playing field came down across electricity lines during a storm causing a power cut which lasted until about 5pm the following day. Scottish & Southern Electricity engineers together with tree surgeons cleared the fallen branches and restored the power. Because of the loss of power the pump that keeps the A37 road beneath the railway bridge clear of water, failed, resulting in the area flooding. Dorset Fire & Rescue Service attended and pumped the water into the Wrackle. Elsewhere in the parish, tree branches came down and a summer-house was turned over.
